Original Sound and Textures By Calx Vive

Between moments of deafening silence, the urban noise soundtrack by Brooklyn-based sound artist Calx Vive ebbed and flowed, mixing with the sounds created by the outfits themselves. It was an enchanting ball, sucking us in completely to create a potent environment and a new warm sensation to the transparent plastic that has covered our lives of late. (…)

The sound artist Calx Vive gave each floor an appropriate sound texture thanks to a particular sound spreading technique that creates a special atmosphere in tune with the ‘beautiful chaos’.

Composer Calx Vive has created a free-style sonic environment with slow jams and pendulum bells reverberating through the space.

Immersive Artistry
This spirit of artistic immersion continues throughout the assortment of installations which comprise the rest of the store: the sound concept throughout was designed by Calx Vive, who created a sonic spatialization through layering "textural sounds" with an eclectic mix of music to animate the store with "beautiful chaos".

DSM continues to add to the environment and experience through sound curation by DSM’s global sound director, Calx Vive, who has created a custom soundtrack to pair with the dramatic, art-filled space.

Sound artist Calx Vive has curated moments of silents, noise, music and disruption throughout the store, to enhance the experience. En route, shoppers will find Rose Bakery, where they can stop for a bite.

The sound artist Calx Vive (an alias borrowed from the esoteric practice of alchemy) is creating a variety of sonic experiences designed, as she wrote in her proposal, to leave customers feeling not “bombarded but rather curious, amused, periodically transfixed.” In addition to audio compositions — and silences — that will rotate throughout the space, she has created a number of “dilapidated sculptural objects that will be emitting sound.”

Sound artist Calx Vive has created a unique store soundtrack (there’ll be no painful Michael Buble lounge crooning here, thank you) using different audio configurations on each of the five floors to form a textured sound under the united credo of “beautiful chaos” – a phrase continuously used by Kawakubo in relation to the retail space.

Additionally, original sound has been created by DSM's global sound director, Calx Vive, to complement the store's ever-changing visual concepts.

This will be the first electronics installation we’ve done and Calx Vive will be curating the sound content so the listener can experience the range of fidelity of the B&O PLAY line – I can’t think of a better company to work with on this installation.”

4. When it comes to in-store background muzik at DSM, a Harry Styles remix blaring from Spotify simply won’t do. Customers waft from floor to floor to the strains of specially composed ‘textured’ soundtracks from the Brooklyn sonic artist, Calx Vive. She based these compositions on somewhat obscure themes such as ‘vanished continents’. Ok then.

O IS FOR: ON THE SPEAKERS

Of course, such an environment needs an equally impressive sound system. For the new store, the enigmatic Brooklyn-based sound artist Calx Vive has returned to collaborate with DSM once more, having previously created a score for DSMNY. The concept is to use different audio configurations on each floor, where “textural sounds will be combined and juxtaposed with a carefully curated selection of eclectic music”. Thus the music will provide an aural translation of, you guessed it, beautiful chaos. Promised samples and inspirations include: “tunes of the fourth and fifth dimensions”, “a gleaming bat cave with filament lights”, and “continents that sank but left their mysteries”.
